74th Annual TASC State Conference
April 8-10, 2010

Plan now to join more than 4,400 Texas high school student council leaders and advisors in Arlington as we come together to celebrate accomplishments, elect officers and attend sessions on leadership and student council issues.  Don't miss the largest gathering of student council leaders in the country.  This amazing event is designed to motivate, educate and celebrate Texas student council leaders.  The 2010 conference will be coordinated by the Southlake Carroll Student Councils and held at the Arlington Convention Center.  The event will include a catered meal and a private party night at Six Flags Theme Park (limited access).

TASC PRIVATE EVENT AT SIX FLAGS OVER TEXAS

Admittance into the TASC private party at Six Flags (limited access) and a catered meal at the park are included in the registration fee.  This an exclusive event held for TASC conference attendees; the entire park will not be open to the public. Download a map of the TASC private party to see what rides and attractions will be available especially for the TASC conference.

CONFERENCE REGISTRATION

 

  • Registration should be submitted to TASC using the official CONFERENCE REGISTRATION FORM 
  • The fee is $90 for each student and advisor attending. 
  • The pre-registration deadline is March 11.  As a bonus for schools meeting the pre-registration deadline, a complimentary conference t-shirt is provided for each delegate.  
  • There is no additional charge for late or on-site registration.  However, conference t-shirts are not provided to schools registering late or on-site. 
  • Admittance into the TASC private party at Six Flags (limited access) and a catered meal at the park are included in the registration fee.  No other meals are included or provided. 
  • School delegations are limited in size by TASC Board Policy.  Please refer to the official registration form for details. 
  • TASC does not accept credit card payments or purchase orders.

CONFERENCE HOTELS

  • Hotel reservations for the conference are to be made directly through the Arlington Convention and Visitors Bureau's online housing service.
  • To reserve rooms at a TASC Conference hotel, enter code 10014 in the appropriate place on the ACVB HOUSING SERVICE website

DELEGATION SPECIFICS

  • A senior high school is allowed to send five student voting delegates, and two advisors or one advisor and one administrator.
  • In addition, schools are allowed eight non-voting delegates plus one additional non-voting delegate for participation in various projects as
    determined by TASC (see regsitration form for specifics).

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE

THURSDAY, April 8

Time Event  Notes
2:00-8:00 pm  Registration/ Candidates Campaigning/ Exhibits Schools will arrive at the Convention Center and register in the Grand Hall (where exhibits are located).  Materials will be distributed to advisors only, but students can tour exhibits and interact with campaigning candidate schools.  Schools can check -in anytime between 2 and 8 pm.  Schools that pre-register with TASC will have materials, including conference t-shirts, ready for pick-up on arrival. Schools may register on-site, but lines could be long, materials will not be ready and t-shirts will not be provided.
 
2:00-8:00 pm  Advisor Hospiltality Area Open  
6:15 pm  Table Talk Presenter Meeting   
 
 
6:15 pm First Time Attendee - Advisor Orientation Advisors attending the conference for the first time will meet with experienced advisors for tips on how to make the most of the conference experience.
6:45 pm General Session Doors Open Doors to the General Session will be open beginning at 6:45 (or earlier).  Any school group may enter the room and secure seating, but the room will not have any activity until 7:45 pm.  Schools may reserve seats for their own delegation ONLY.  At least one person from the delegation must remain with marked seats at all times.  Any item used to mark seats reserved will be removed if there is not at least one person from the delegation present at all times. 
8:00-10:00 pm  OPENING GENERAL SESSION  
This high energy session will kick off the conference. Students from Southlake Carroll Schools' student councils will deliver an
exciting opening, state officer candidates will deliver speeches and delegates will hear from a dynamic keynote speaker, Keith Hawkins.

FRIDAY, April 9 

Time Event Notes
7:45 am General Session Doors Open Doors to the General Session will be open beginning at 6:45 (or earlier).  Any school group may enter the room and secure seating, but the room will not have any activity until 8:45 am.  Schools may reserve seats for their own delegation ONLY.  At least one person from the delegation must remain with marked seats at all times.  Any item used to mark seats reserved will be removed if there is not at least one person from the delegation present at all times. 
8:00-8:45 am Meet the Candidates Sessions 5 student delegates from each member school will hear candidates discuss their school’s qualifications and proposed platforms for TASC.
8:00-8:45 am Advisor Business Meeting   
9:00-11:15 am  GENERAL SESSION - Political Rally Delegates will participate in a political rally in which candidate schools will present campaign skits.  Member schools will vote for 2010-2011 State Officers after lunch.
 
11:15-1:00 pm Lunch and Campaign Caucus with Delegates  Lunch will be on your own at restaurants around Arlington.  During lunch, schools are asked to caucus and review all candidate data (campaign, platform, skits) to determine how to cast ballots after lunch.
 
12:45- 1:30 p.m Ballot Distribution and Voting     
1:30-4:15 pm  Breakout Sessions Three rounds of breakout "stations" with more than 75 topics will be available to students and advisors.
5:00-10:00 pm Private TASC Event at Six Flags Over Texas Students and advisors will enjoy a private party (limited access) at one of America's finest theme parks.  A catered meal is included with the park ticket. 

SATURDAY, April 10

8:30 a.m. Run-off balloting If necessary
9:30-11:00am  CLOSING GENERAL SESSION This session will wrap up the 2010 TASC Conference.  Delegates will be inspired by keynote speaker Craig Keilburger and 2010-2011Officers will be announced and inducted.

CONFERENCE DRESS AND BEHAVIOR

  • The TASC Board of Directors has a specific conference dress code and members schools must adhere to this dress code.
  • No shorts are allowed to be worn at conference activities.  The only exception is the night at Six Flags.
  • Hats or caps are not to be worn inside any building.
  • Make plans to check into the hotel to change clothes after traveling, if needed, prior to registering at the Convention Center.
  • During General Sessions, advisors should sit with their school group to help manage noise and behavor. Students should not be allowed to run or dance in the open aisles, nor stand in chairs.
  • It is very important that we all speak with one voice regarding rules and behavior.  It is very difficult to explain to the students who are following rules and behaving appropraitely the reason other
    students are allowed to misbehave and ignore rules.
