TASC SUMMER LEADERSHIP WORKSHOPS A meaningful experience that empowers student leaders and advisors to lead effectively in schools and communities
TASC Summer Leadership Workshops are designed to help student leaders and advisors develop skills needed to effectively lead a student council at the campus level. In addition to learning skills and techniques to improve student council operation, delegates gain insight into their personal leadership strengths. Led by experienced educators with a strong commitment to youth programs, the workshop program has a 50 year history of serving student councils in Texas.
The summer workshop experience establishes A POWERFUL STUDENT VOICE Student leaders want to contribute, to be involved, to improve. Some are natural leaders, but for most leadership is acquired through instruction and experiences. For most, a desire to serve is the common denominator. Students come together to understand the voice that calls them and to cultivate their own leadership voice.
The summer workshop experience creates A CIRCLE OF ADVISORS DEDICATED TO STUDENT LEADERS Join teachers fulfilled by helping students find their voices and Student Councils find a voice. Experience the TASC advisor network to receive training and guidance. Exceed the basic standard of student council operation in your school.

2010 WORKSHOP SCHEDULE & REGISTRATION
Workshop Registration: Each workshop site has its own site specific registration form (available in chart below).
Please download and TYPE your information onto the form.
Once the form is complete, print, secure necessary signatures and send in with full payment OR $100 deposit per person.
See below for cancellation and refund policies.
REGISTRATION PROCESS All registration must be mailed to the TASC office and will only be accepted on the official 2010 Registration Forms. Each workshop has its own form that must be sent to TASC with full payment or deposit to secure space.
DEADLINES Registration deadlines are one month prior to the start date of each workshop. TASC will accept and process registration until each workshop is filled or until this date. If the one month registration deadline for a particular site has passed, please contact Lori at TASC directly at 512-443-2100 EXT. 257 to discuss space availability and options for registration. Please note: workshops do fill up and space is limited at certain sites.
WORKSHOP PAYMENT TASC offers two summer workshop payment options: full payment at the time of registration OR a $100 deposit per participant, with the balance due in one additional payment one month prior to the start date of the workshop.
REFUNDS/CANCELLATIONS Cancellations and refunds are permitted until one month prior to the start date of a particular workshop and must be made in writing to the TASC Office. When applicable, the refund amount will be applied to the balance due. Each time a cancellation is made, there will be a $25 transaction fee assessed per individual cancellation. No refunds or credits are given for cancellations made less than one month prior to the start date of a workshop. Refunds are not provided for workshop no-shows, regardless of the situation.
REGISTRATION CONFIRMATION All workshop registration will be confirmed by email, unless otherwise requested in writing. Once the general workshop registration form is processed in the TASC office, advisors will be emailed a confirmation receipt and a code to be used to access individual student forms and other workshop information on a workshop specific webpage. Individual student and adult registration forms, participant agreements and expectations, and student medical forms should be distributed to attendees and returned to the workshop director. All schools registered by APRIL 15 will be confirmed and provided with access to materials no later than MAY 5. Schools registering between APRIL 15 and MAY 15 will be confirmed and provided with access to materials no later than JUNE 1. If registration is not received and processed until after MAY 15, TASC will work to get materials to a school in a timely manner, but cannot guarantee specific dates.
DELEGATION SPECIFICATIONS TASC accepts registration from school student council groups only. Individual student registrations are not permitted. The local school advisor, or an adult approved by the school principal, must accompany groups and participate in the workshop. School groups are limited to 15 student delegates at an individual workshop location. School classification determines which type of workshop a school may attend. Student participation is based on the grade the student will be entering in the fall. Students entering grades 7-9 at a middle school or junior high school in the fall must attend middle level workshops. Students entering the 6th grade are not eligible to attend workshops. Students entering grades 9-12 at a high school in the fall are eligible to attend high school workshops. Ninth grade centers or campuses are considered high school level. Students that are not returning to school in the fall (recent graduates) may not attend workshops.
STAFF POSITIONS TASC Summer Leadership Workshops are run by a leadership team consisting of a paid workhop director (logistics) and consultant (training/curriculum). Each site depends on advisors attending the workshop with their schools to fill additional staff positions. These volunteer positions include: secretary, sponsor consultant, dean of men, dean of women, and multiple small group facilitators. While these are not paid positions, adult volunteer staff is provided with complimentary registration (which includes room and board). Individual workshop staff positions are arranged by the workshop director. If interested in serving on staff at a particular workshop, contact the director listed for that site.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How is participation funded? Most schools secure funding from one or more of the following sources: student council fundraising, parent/student contribution, general school funding (principal funds, PTSA), local civic groups or sponsorships. Do advisors have to participate? TASC promotes the philosophy that a student council is a group of student leaders working WITH an adult advisor; therefore advisor participation in the workshop program is key. While at workshop, advisors are expected to meet with hometown students regularly, participate in activities and monitor student behavior. Is arriving late or leaving early ok (for a group or individual)? TASC policy requires that all attendees stay for the duration of the workshop. Early departures (or late arrivals) impact the small groups, dorm assignments and flow of the workshop experience for all delegates. If a student/advisor/group cannot commit to the entire workshop, then partial attendance is not an option. Please review the schedule start time and end time before registering for a workshop. Will we need any additional spending money? Once the workshop begins, most meals and social activities are provided as part of the workshop fee. The one exception is a mid-week break in which hometown groups leave campus to explore the local area and have dinner together off campus. Additional money will be needed for customary expenses, such as meals on travel days and souvenirs, if desired. Do adults have to share a room? The per-person fee for each workshop is based on double occupancy. In some cases at limited sites, private housing for adults only may be available at an additional fee. This is based on availability and is arranged with the specific workshop director.
