2008 Top Ten Projects
 

This project was designed provide encouragement to local third graders taking the TAKS test through a variety of activities at feeder schools.

 

In this project, students collected personal hygiene items and provided decorated gift bags to those in need.

 

The Burkeville student council organized a community walk-a-thon to raise funds to help the fire department build a heliport for landing a life-flight helicopter.

 
 

In response to the Houston Holocaust Museum’s effort to acquire 1.5 million paper butterflies to represent the children that died during the Holocaust, Clements StuCo worked to contribute 2,5000 butterflies to the collection.

The objective of this project was to educate young children and their parents on how to stay safe and what steps to take in case of a tragedy, such as a kidnapping.

 

The purpose of this project was to raise funds to help Miss Helen, a school custodian, with her medical bills and living expenses while in chemotherapy and after he bone marrow transplant.

 

The Shallowater student council organized a coalition of local students and community members to work to address fatal car crashes.

 

The student council organized a peaceful protest to send a unified message to the school district about changes that were being planned at the school.

 

In order to raise funds to support a Wish Kid’s dream, this school organized a charity basketball game and raised more than $6300 through the activity.

 
Terrell High School: Terrell ISD Inter-Campus Spirit Challenge

This student council led fundraiser was deigned to help keep the County Children’s Shelter for neglected and abused children open. This project involved student form all areas and at various schools and raised more than $7000.

 
 
 
2007 Top Ten Projects
Abilene High School for Reality Check!
The Reality Check project was designed to promote safe driving with teens and to prevent drinking and driving.  The project activities showed the students of Abilene High School and the community the consequences of every decision made in the driver’s seat.
Atlanta High School for Stop, Drop & Roll Out for Firefighters
This project allowed Atlanta High School student council members to honor firemen and assist them in providing fire safety education during Fire Prevention Week.
Burkeville High School for Let’s Have 65 Roses Instead of Cystic Fibrosis
The student council at Burkeville HS joined forces with FCCLA to raise money for cystic fibrosis by hosting an elementary school skate-a thon.
Bushland High School for Project P.L.A.Y.
Project P.L.A.Y. (Promoting Literacy from Athletes to Youth) was designed to promote literacy with elementary student s.  The student council organized a program in which athletes read to children to promote reading and school spirit in the community.
Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School, Orange for Teens in the Driver’s Seat
This student council worked with the Texas Transportation Institute to increase awareness of causes of teen car crashes.
Mabank High School for Spirit Week
The student council at Mabank High School challenges another area high school in a week-long, district and community wide fundraising competition to raise money for charity.  This year, $30,000 was raised for the American Diabetes Association.
New Braunfels High School for Extreme Makeover: Teacher’s Lounge Edition
This project resulted in a complete re-design of the teacher’s lounge at New Braunfels High School.  Student council secured new furniture a décor and completely remodeled the lounge.
Prairiland High School, Pattonville for Brittney’s Wish
The Prairiland student council worked with the Make-A-Wish foundation to sponsor a wish for a student at their small school diagnosed with a brain tumor.
Reagan High School, San Antonio for Trash Day
In this project, the student council “trashed” the school lunch area to motivate students to keep the school free from trash.
Timberview High School, Arlington for HOG Week.
HOG Week was devoted to Helping Others through Giving.  In just one week, this school raised $11,000 to help a Make-A-Wish wish kid’s dream of attending the Pro Bowl in Hawaii come true.
